Career support at the International Study Centre

Lancaster University has an outstanding employability rate - 97% of graduates are in work or further study within six months of graduating*. At the International Study Centre, we help you prepare for your future with CareerAhead and work experience support. These services will give you the skills to succeed in your future career.

What is CareerAhead?

You will undertake a variety of CareerAhead activities as part of your International Foundation Year or Pre-Masters Programme at Lancaster University.

CareerAhead helps you to become a confident, skilled and employable graduate. Through CareerAhead, you will develop valuable employability skills to help you stand out and achieve your goals.

You will develop confidence as your build your teamwork, problem solving and communication skills. You will be guided towards creating a personal development plan to work on throughout your time at the University.

You'll also have the opportunity to build up work experience by taking up part-time employment or a work placement during your studies. Find out more about working rights as part your visa.

Virtual Internships

Benefit from an online internship placement in a career field of your choice with Virtual Internships. Having access to a virtual work placement experience will help prepare you for the world of work, by enabling you to put the knowledge you have gained from your academic studies into working practice**.

Once you begin your journey with us at Lancaster University International Study Centre, you will be able to utilise Virtual Internships at no extra cost and start gaining real-world industry experience while you study with us^.

You will also gain access to CareerBridge, a professional development hub. Here, you will be assigned a supervisor who can help you develop your CV and interview techniques, as well as deliver key insights that will be useful once you have started your career.

When you progress to your degree at Lancaster you will continue to develop the goals in your personal career development plan. You can also use the University’s excellent career services and events, including gaining experience with Lancaster’s award-winning work experience and placement programme. The University also offers career planning and employability workshops to help you gain confidence and new skills.
